We were beyond excited to find out in 2021 the next stage of the Leeds City Rail Station Improvements will be going ahead with completion scheduled for 2023.
The plans include streets and entrances becoming more pedestrian-friendly; more cycle lanes being added; taxi ranks and bus stops being moved; new seating and lifts being added; improvements made to Neville Street and the Dark Arches; and the bit that makes us the most excited is that New Station Street will be fully pedestrianised!
We love being on New Station Street - we're a great last stop for a beer before your train home and it has a lovely buzz about it.
But with the noise and fug of the double deckers accelerating up the hill to the station; the taxis clamouring for spots in the rank; and the tiny pavements it makes it a hard street to navigate and not a great first impression for visitors to our city.
Fingers crossed the changes start soon, they finish on time (due for completion 2023) and one day in the not too distant future you may be able to enjoy your meat and cheese boards in the blistering sunshine - just pretend you're in Paris or Seville 😜
